Born and raised in the United States, I came to Japan at the age of 15 and spent the second half of my life acclimating to Japanese language and culture. I am a native English speaker and fluent in Japanese. After studying Psychology at Temple University Japan, I became a licensed counselor with the goal of helping foreign and mixed people through difficult life adjustments and mental health problems. After becoming a mother myself, I obtained further licensing for children's and family therapy, specializing in young children and parental support.

Experience and Methods
I have worked with individuals via online therapy, as well as schools and childcare institutions on a contract basis. I have also worked directly with police and volunteer organizations on behalf of victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and foreigners seeking divorce.

I specialize in children and use play therapy and art therapy, especially with smaller children for whom talking and understanding their own feelings may be difficult. With families and individuals I work case by case to find the type of therapy that best suits your needs. Among these are CBT, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy, person-centered methods, and sometimes art therapy.

I believe that a good relationship between the counselor and client is one of the most important parts of therapy, and strive to create an entirely judgement free, open environment where clients can talk about anything without the fear of stigma or shame. I also believe that while there are a handful of situation that can be taken care of in a few sessions, most of the time therapy is a process that takes months to years to come to a successful conclusion. Take your time, find the therapist that best fits you, and work on healing one day at a time!
